Meridian Therapy and Acupuncture |
Meridian Therapy is a science of diagnosis and therapy that treats chronic and acute illnesses, as well as provides health maintenance and improvement of overall well-being. Developed in the Far East over 3,000 years ago, meridian therapy promotes natural healing abilities by reinforcing and maintaining equilibrium of the vital life energy. (In Japanese, the word for life energy is ki — pronounced "key"; in Chinese, it is qi — pronounced "chee".)
Externally, ki is influenced and brought into balance through tactile pressure and therapeutics, washes, soaks, compresses and attending to one's relationship to the environment. Internally, therapy may involve food, herbs, medicines, mediation and other forms of internally strengthening the body, mind and spirit.
All my friends and family are impressed to see me feeling so good with my cough much better, my backache gone and I have so much energy, I can't believe it's me! Thank you!
— Toni Smith (age 79)
Acupuncture is the stimulation of "points" (tsubo) on the body to bring about balance of life energy. This stimulus is provided with sharp and blunt instruments, heat and touch. We utilize disposable medical devices that are very fine (33-40 gauge) and are planted quite shallow (1/2 to 1 1/2 cm). This fine needle may remain in place for a length of a breath, or for 10 to 15 minutes. Sometimes a slight pricking sensation may be felt upon needle insertion and sometimes a slight electrical sensation may be felt around the site. Acupuncture needles are solid and do not transport or convey any substances into the body.
